Recently, the long-awaited news for the popular mobile game, Twisted Wonderland, anime was recently announced. Just this past weekend, an anime trailer dropped showcasing the boys in all their animated 2D glory and as someone who has played since around the time the game launched on English servers, I’m excited! And it takes me a lot to get hyped for something these days (with this cold dead heart of mine).
For the uninitiated, here is a quick rundown of what Twisted Wonderland is:
Twisted Wonderland follows an ordinary student who ends up in the magical world of Night Raven College. Isekaied into this brand new world where magic and supernatural beings actually exists, they must navigate a new life at the school alongside fellow students who are the embodiment of Disney characters, specifically all of your favorite villains. From the very start of your student life, things become complicated as it’s clear cracks area forming amongst the student body and you’re apparently the only one who can fix it. Can you, a plain old ordinary human, survive a magical school with students who clearly need therapy? Stay tuned and find out!
To get my initial opinions one the game, you can also check out my First Impressions post on Twisted Wonderland I wrote up after 5 months of playing the game.
However, you should check out the official website for more details including information on the characters, the world, and more. For the story, here is the official summary from the official website:
Perhaps there’s more to “villains” than meets the eye…
Summoned by a magic mirror to Twisted Wonderland, a world altogether unlike your own, you arrive at Night Raven College, a prestigious arcane academy.
With nowhere else to go, you accept the masked headmage’s hospitality and begin searching for a way home.
You quickly find that the students of this school are as talented as they are dysfunctional–bickering and competition are the perpetual order of the day.
Will you be able to work with them and eventually return from whence you came?
And what secrets lie within the villainous hearts of these students?
As for the anime, what do we know about it? Thankfully, a little bit more than before thanks to the trailer dropping this past weekend. Here’s another quick rundown:
Release Date: October 2025 Platform: Disney+
What will it cover: The first season will cover the first book of the game/manga which is the Heartslabyul Book so fans of Riddle, Deuce, Ace, Trey, and Cater should rejoice! Though obviously, the other students will be there so no need to fret.
Will there be more seasons?: According to the YouTube description under the teaser trailer, the anime has already been renewed up to season 3! So we can expect to at least see the Savanaclaw and Octovinelle Books be animated as well. Rejoice!
Will there English Dub?: No news of that yet, but I assume so. What we do know is that the Japanese dub will have the original seiyuus (voice actors) from the game.
The anime itself is still some ways off so more information will become available as we get closer to the release. Unfortunately, the only downside I see from the anime so far is that it is a Disney+ exclusive which makes sense since Twisted Wonderland is essentially a Disney property/IP. I actually got Disney+ recently because there is currently a promotion going on where you can get 3 months of Disney+ for only $3.99 (not sponsored). I may just have to keep it for the TWST anime if it’s even on Disney+ outside of Japan. Although, according to one article, it may come out on Hulu for US viewers so I guess we just have to wait and see with painstaking patience.
Regardless, I do look forward to it! It’s been great seeing how far TWST has come from being a mobile game to now have its own manga, anthology, and anime. The Japanese game server also recently celebrated its 5th anniversary and it looks like it’s only up from here so cheers to TWST and looking forward to more little surprises from here.
